BBC F1 Playlist: Malaysia 2012
A belated return to the BBCF1 2012 Playlist, Malaysia edition.
An absolute corker of a race, all you Fernando fans must be pretty happy with that result. But onto the most pressing matter; the music.
As The Chain by Fleetwood Mac once again introduce us to the coverage, we are treated to a recap of the race in Australia, with One to Another by The Charlatans, followed by a brief musical excerpt of Hot Right Now by DJ Fresh ft Rita Ora, as the Beeb kindly remind us of the general climatic conditions that Malaysia often throws up. The BBC are nothing if not informative! Sadly, the qualifying show was not as full of music as the previous race, with the only other addition of Goto 10 by Amon Tobin to introduce the quali coverage, with the Beeb choosing to see out the show with Hot Right Now once again, just in case we’d forgotten.
The race show was opened with another race recap, this time with Eye For An Eye by Unkle, an edgy choice that fitted well. After much cursing, computer throwing and tantrums, I finally identified the music behind the news segments as Aka What A Life! by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, only to realise I had already identified it for the BBCF1 2011 Playlist. Much facepalming ensued, but there you have it, in case you were wondering. It’ll hypothetically be used for most of the years news segments, so I’ll let you know now.
One song has escaped identification from me, the track behind the Williams drivers interview. If anyone can identify it, cookies will be given, until then, it’ll be saved for the 2012 round up at the end of the year. Crying in The Rain by Whitesnake saw out the BBC coverage, a rather apt choice, given what happened to most of the drivers. Honestly, I think the only two drivers that were actually properly happy were Fernando and Checo after that rollercoaster, possibly with a few notable exceptions. What a race!
BONUS TRACK: 8tracks.com requires a minimum of (You guessed it) eight tracks to be featured on the playlist, so in addition to the above songs, I’ll also throw in the tracks from the Formula1.com race edits to sweeten the deal. For this weeks playlist, you’ll be treated to the musical sounds of 30 Seconds To Mars playing Kings and Queens, from the Australian GP race edit. Enjoy!
Until Shanghai,

Any idea what the song in this is?
Hi Ben,
That would be “Can’t Stop Moving” by Sonny J, a rather apt choice for F1’s very own Speedy Gonzales!
You hero. Thanks!
Can’t wait to see if schumi can plow through the field!
Well if anyone can scythe through the field, Schumi can
De rien, Ben! (No direct way of replying to your comment apparently, you may or may not see this!)
Fingers crossed for Schumi, a personal favourite of mine and he’s had the worst luck this year. He can do it!
